• Ron Remembered: A Musical Memorial to Ron MacKay

    Ron Remembered photoA Musical Memorial Concert to Ron MacKay took place on Sunday, June 22, at the Cobequid Education Centre AV Room in Truro.

    This evening of music featured a concert band made up of CEC Band Alumni and MacKay’s associates over the years, a wind ensemble made up of professional and semi-professional players, and the CEC Symphonic Band.

    All of the proceeds from this memorial concert went to the Ron MacKay Award at CEC.

    The concert featured all Ron MacKay arrangements and compositions.

    Conductors for the evening included: retired CEC director of music Paul Barrett; fine arts consultant for the Nova Scotia Department of Education, Ardith Haley; musician-composer Scott Macmillan; director of the Second Wind Community Band, Laura Mercer; band director and music teacher at Queen Charlotte Intermediate School in P.E.I., Rowan Fitzgerald; band director and music teacher at Charles P. Allen High School, Nathan Beeler; and Ken Foote, owner of Buckley’s Music in Halifax.
