• Acadia University Summer Conducting Symposium

  August 9^th-14^th, 2010 in Wolfville, NS, with special guest lecturer Dr. Colleen Richardson, University of Western Ontario.

  For four years the Acadia University Summer Conducting Symposium has been assisting musicians who wish to learn more about the art and craft of musical leadership. Past participants have included graduate students, junior and senior high music teachers, professional, and community conductors. • Band of the West Yorkshire (U.K.) Fire & Rescue Service

  In October 2008 the Bridgewater Fire Department Band was contacted by the Band of the West Yorkshire (U.K.) Fire & Rescue Service to consider the possibility of a trans-Atlantic band exchange. After many months of extensive planning in both Nova Scotia and England, the BFDB is pleased to be welcoming the West Yorkshire band to Canada on August 5^th, 2010.

  A busy week is planned for the WYFRS Band including performances in Bridgewater, Lunenburg, and Annapolis County, culminating in a Gala Concert at Bridgewater High School at 7.00 PM on August 11^th, to which Her Honour the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia has been invited.

  In August 2011 the BFDB will be travelling to England for a week-long return visit.

• Moonlight Concert in Paradise 2010

  Join the Annapolis Big Band on the grounds of Ellenhurst in Paradise, NS for a concert under the stars. The concert takes place on August 14^th from 7:30 until 11:00 pm. The rain date is August 15,

• Second Wind Community Band Fall Fest 2009

  A big thank-you to Laura Mercer and her organizing committee for hosting Fall Fest 2009. A special thank-you to the Nova Brass for their coaching and great playing, to Richard Bennett and Rowan Fitzgerald for their musical leadership and friendship, and to Julie Cuming for coaching and leading The Ron MacKay Music for Life Horn Choir.

  A great weekend of Cape Breton scenery, friendship, and music making!
